Mary Washington Hospital opened its doors in 1899 debt-free, made possible by the generous donations of community members. Today, we continue that tradition of working with our community to ensure that we are able to provide the best health care possible. Mary Washington Hospital (MWH) Foundation, created in 1988 to be the fundraising mechanism of Mary Washington Hospital and its affiliates, is proud to support the health care needs of the citizens of Fredericksburg and its surrounding communities. MWH Foundation has a wide variety of giving options. (For more information, please click on "Methods of Giving".) We host an annual golf tournament and a bi-annual polo match. Because MWH Foundation is not-for-profit, donations are fully deductible as allowed by current IRS regulations. The Foundation provides monies that enable the Hospital to acquire the very latest in technological advances and provide educational scholarships to students who have chosen careers in health care. We also administer the MWH Community Service Fund (see link to right), a program that awards grants to non-profit organizations that seek to establish health-related projects within our region. The Fund is a recipient of the Chamber of Commerce Regional Cooperation award for outstanding service.

Our highly trained and knowledgeable staff has been sought out by Health Foundations throughout the mid-Atlantic region for their expertise in many areas including donor-based services, capital campaigns, grant-making, and innovative solutions to regional health care issues. The mission of the Foundation is to communicate the case for financial support of the activities of MediCorp Health System and to act as a grantmaker to promote partnerships with community organizations to improve the health status of all people within our community.
